The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025, set to be held in the UAE from September 9-28. Suryakumar Yadav will captain the side.
Asia Cup 2025: Team India Squad Announced
Shubman Gill, India’s Test captain, is back as vice-captain, marking a T20I return after a stellar IPL 2025, scoring 650 runs. His inclusion bolsters the squad despite past doubts about his T20 fit.
Jasprit Bumrah, the pace spearhead, confirmed his availability after workload concerns. He’ll be joined by Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana, forming a formidable pace attack for the tournament’s UAE conditions.
Key Batting and All-Round Selections
Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma are set as openers, with Tilak Varma at No. 3. Their explosive form in recent T20Is makes them vital to India’s aggressive batting approach in the UAE.
Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Shivam Dube feature as all-rounders, adding depth. Their versatility in batting and bowling will be key to maintaining team balance in high-pressure matches.
Spin and Squad Surprises
Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav lead the spin attack, suited for UAE pitches. Jitesh Sharma edges out Dhruv Jurel as the backup wicketkeeper, securing his spot in the squad.
Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal, despite scoring 604 and 559 runs in IPL 2025, were omitted. Selectors favored continuity with the existing T20 core over their recent form.
Rinku Singh earned a spot for his finishing skills despite a modest IPL. Standbys include Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
India begins their campaign against UAE on September 10 in Dubai, followed by a high-octane clash with Pakistan on September 14. They face Oman on September 19.
The Asia Cup, a T20 event, is a key preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup. India, defending champions, aim to retain their title in the UAE’s challenging conditions.
Suryakumar Yadav, cleared after a fitness test, will lead India through to the 2026 World Cup. His aggressive batting and calm leadership make him a perfect fit.
The squad was announced via press release due to Mumbai rains. Fans are buzzing with excitement as India gears up for another thrilling Asia Cup campaign.
