Introduction
TVK’s slogan is “Pirappokkum Ellaa Uyirkkum,” which means “All are equal by birth”. This reflects the party’s core belief in equality and social justice.

History
The roots of TVK go back to 2009 when actor Vijay started Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, a welfare movement. Around 2009, Vijay’s fan clubs were brought together under a structured organization called Narpani Iyakkam, which focused on community service activities.
This movement was formally launched in Pudukkottai and supported the AIADMK alliance in the 2011 elections. However, on February 2, 2024, Vijay announced the launch of his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
The party’s formation marked a major shift from social work to active politics. Vijay’s fan clubs, reportedly numbering around 85,000 across Tamil Nadu, transformed into a political cadre forming the backbone of TVK’s grassroots structure.
Furthermore, the party declared that it would not participate in the 2024 general elections but would focus entirely on the 2026 assembly elections. Since its launch, TVK has organized massive rallies and conferences that have drawn lakhs of supporters from across the state.
