Tamil cinema fans are thrilled as Simbu (Silambarasan TR) and Santhanam reunite for STR 49, a college drama directed by Ramkumar Balakrishnan, who impressed audiences with Parking.
The film was officially launched with a traditional pooja ceremony in Chennai on May 3, 2025, attended by the cast and crew, marking the start of an exciting project.

Simbu plays a college student, and the first look poster, featuring him with an engineering book and a bloody knife, hints at a gripping story with the tagline “The Most Wanted Student.” Kayadu Lohar, known for her role in Dragon, stars as the female lead, while Santhanam takes on a key comedic role, returning to the humor that made him a star.

The duo’s past collaborations, including Manmadhan (2004), Vallavan (2006), Vaalu (2015), and Osthe (2011), have cemented their status as a beloved on-screen pair, with Santhanam crediting Simbu for his industry break.
Produced by Aakash Basakaran under Dawn Pictures, STR 49 features music by Sai Abhyankhar and is set to begin filming in April 2025, aiming for a single-schedule shoot.

Simbu recently completed Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life, set for release on June 5, 2025, alongside Kamal Haasan, and has his 50th film with Desingh Periasamy and God of Love with Ashwath Marimuthu lined up.
Santhanam, now a lead in films like DD Returns, was briefly attached to an Ajith Kumar project that was canceled. The announcement of STR 49 has sparked a wave of excitement on social media, with fans sharing clips from the duo’s earlier films and eagerly awaiting their chemistry.
