Subiksha Age

She was 23 years old as of 2025. She was born on 30th August 2002 in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. She completed her graduation in English literature before pursuing her career in fishing and entrepreneurship.

Early Life

Born and raised in the coastal town of Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu, she comes from the Periyathalai shoreline area. This region is known for having some of the most violent waves on the Coromandel coast. She completed her graduation in English literature.

Her family has deep roots in the fishing community. Her father, J Kumar, and her younger brother, K Leander (22 years old), are both fishermen. From a young age, she watched them go fishing and wanted to follow their path.

Before becoming a fisherwoman, she worked briefly at a private bank and a finance firm in Thoothukudi. However, her family faced severe financial hardships. During this difficult time, she decided to rebuild her life by starting a small business in her village and joining her father and brother in fishing.

Subiksha has been going fishing with her father and brother for over two years. She typically leaves for fishing trips at 1 AM and returns by 10 AM. She ventures as far as 12 nautical miles into the sea, facing high waves and stormy weather conditions.

Her fishing activities include all kinds of catches. She catches crabs, squid, and various fish like salai (sardines), ayilai (mackerel), and pei salai (Indian oil sardines). The Periyathalai coast where she fishes is known for its strong waves and challenging conditions, making fishing quite dangerous.

During her first fishing trip, the towering waves terrified her. However, she did not get seasick or feel nauseous. This convinced her father to allow her to continue fishing with them.

As a woman in a male-dominated field, she faced unique challenges. There are no basic facilities at sea for women, including simple things like answering nature’s call in the middle of the ocean. Despite these difficulties, she continued her passion for fishing.

Social Media Influencer and Sea Vlogger

The young entrepreneur is a budding sea vlogger who documents the lives of fisherfolk and the beauty of the sea. Her YouTube channel has 2.55 lakh subscribers. Her Instagram account (@meenava_ponnu_subi) has grown significantly to 5 lakh followers as of September 2025.

Through her videos and posts, she shows how fisherfolk risk their lives every day to provide protein-rich food to people. Her content showcases the coastal lifestyle, fishing techniques, and the vibrant culture of her region. This content helps people understand and appreciate the hard work of fishing communities.

Seafood Entrepreneur

The Bigg Boss contestant started a successful seafood business. She produces and sells seven varieties of fish pickles, including dry fish, tuna, prawn, and kingfish pickles. These products are sold locally in her area and also through Instagram.
